Over the Easter weekend the industrial branch line that Ports of Stockholm has built to Stockholm Norvik Port was connected to the railway network and electrified. This creates a direct railway link to and from the port on the Green Cargo intermodal network for national and international transport.

ICA will use the Volvo Group’s freight train to transport goods. Normally, south-bound trains operated by Green Cargo transport Volvo’s freight from Sweden to the factory in the Belgian city of Gent. For the last six years, the Swedish logistics company Scanlog has used north-bound trains to transport cargo such as food for ICA, the train has not run since Volvo’s truck factory in Gent closed.

In August, AGA Gas and Green Cargo further extended their partnership agreement with shipments from Sweden to Norway. In the beginning of March, the first shuttle for Årsta left from Älmhult and Torsvik under the new contract with IKEA Transport & Logistics Services. The shuttle runs six days per week and supplies goods to department stores and warehouses in the greater Stockholm and Uppsala areas.

Holmen has taken a new step in its sustainable strategy work. Holmen’s largest forest holdings are located in northern Sweden, while much of its industrial production takes place in the south. Volvo Cars’ sustainability day in Gothenburg on Thursday concluded with awarding the international Volvo Cars Quality of Excellence prize. Several hundred participants from all over the world were there, including Marcus Wiklund and Clas Svensson from Green Cargo. The greatest reduction in the climate impact of transportation stems from moving cargo to rail. In a collaboration agreement, Domsjö Fiber and Green Cargo have moved over 5,000 tonnes of pulpwood a week from road to rail freight for safer, more efficient and greener transportation. The first rail consignment, loaded with lnps-model timber wagons, ran in mid-February.

Green Cargo and Yilport have signed a three-year agreement covering rail shuttles between Granudden and Fredriksskans, where Yilport – Gävle’s container terminal – is located. The service began in mid-February and runs seven trains a week.

There is considerable market demand for international rail shuttle services. Green Cargo and the Belgium firm, Lineas, have increased the number of train departures on the popular direct route, Belgium Direct, between Sweden and Belgium for existing and new customers. On January 12, the fourth shuttle started between the countries and volumes on the trains is increasing.
